About Me

Carlos Macedo, M.S. LMHC

Carlos Macedo, M.S. LMHC

I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and have been living and working in South Florida since 1981. I'm fully bilingual (English and Spanish), earned a MS in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University, and a BFA from Florida Atlantic University. I’ve also attended several seminars on Trauma and PTSD, Ericksonian Hypnosis, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (the latter given by Donald Meichenbaum, PhD, one of the world's foremost experts in CBT). Most recently, I have researched and incorporated Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based approach to psychotherapy, as a cornerstone of my practice — with amazing results.

Throughout my career, I have helped clients deal with issues that range from depression, anxiety, self-harm, OCD, traumatic grief, PTSD, LGBT identity and chronic illness. I’ve worked at private practices and not-for-profit organizations. My practicum took place at the Broward Outreach Center, a homeless shelter in Downtown Hollywood, where I worked with clients of different genders, ethnic groups, nationalities, and sexual orientations with severe mood disorders, mental illness, and co-occurring conditions. While there, I also helped recently-released convicts adjust to life outside an institution. I call this learning period my "boot camp" into the mental health field.

In addition to my mental health counseling background, I'm also a graduate of the Landmark Forum, Landmark seminars, and the rigorous Landmark Introduction Leader's Program. Landmark Education's self-improvement courses have been lauded by independent studies, including one from the Harvard Business School, as one of the premier personal effectiveness programs.
